Shadows they come and they fall
The door swings open from the inside
Can't you read the writing on the walls
Serpentine lips they seem to hide
They seem to hide
Can't you see it in her eyes
Don't you smell those sweet, sweet lies
Serpentine lips they seem to hide
Whisper sweet nothings in my ear
Catch a frog drowning on a rope
Did you get the letters I sent you dear?
Camel dry desert full of hope
So full of hope
Can't you see it in her eyes
Don't you feel those sweet sweet lies
Serpentine lips they seem to hide
can't you see those dead men swingin'
don't ya hear those church bells ringin'
don't ya feel that brand new sunrise
I can see it in your eyes
In your eyes (×4)
Cotton candy sweet but so dead
Do you feel the ice wind blow
Thoughts of you dancing in my head
Too much time to let go
To let it go
Can't you see it in her eyes
Don't you smell those sweet sweet lies
Serpentine lips they seem to hide
can't you see those dead men swingin'
don't ya hear those church bells ringin'
don't ya feel that brand new sunrise
I can see it in your eyes (×2)
Yet another Super Songwriter Saturday Song. This song wrote itself. It is basically a dream with the theme of a witchy type of woman. Kind of like the Sirens tale calling men to their deaths. I know that it is set in Mexico. Some of the imagery is very Kabalistic. Shadows they come and they fall -Jung's idea of the Shadow, which one must embrace and face in order to enlighten one's self. The door swung open from the inside - opportunity from within. The writing on the wall - the reading of obvious clues. Serpentine Lips seem to hide -the snake lady is devious and has the ability to hide her true self. Whisper sweet nothings in my ear -the deceit of love, flirtation. Catch a frog drowning on a rope - reference to the fact that a frog will not notice they are being boiled alive if you slowly increase the heat in the pot they are in and will not jump out, someone else would have to save them. Did you get the letter's I sent you dear - a message is sent to warn someone but they have either not gotten them or have ignored them. Camel dry desert full of hope - reference to the spiritual desert one must go through to reach enlightenment. All you have is hope, faith. Cotton candy sweet but so dead -the snake lady, soulless. Can't you fill the ice wind blow -ominous warning. Thoughts of you dancing in my head -thoughts of better times, sentimental feelings. Too much time to let go -the person is not giving up on the person who is under the spell of the snake lady.
The Choruses are self-explanatory. The bridge is full of imagery; I can almost see a surrealistic video. Dead men swinging - previous victims of the snake lady. Church bells ringing - the hope for spiritual intervention. Brand New Sunrise - rebirth, awakening from the snake lady's spell. I can see it in your eyes - a glimmer of hope
